One of the nice things I noticed in the Korean streets almost since the day I arrived is the elaborated kinds of doors and gates they adorn many of their houses with. Sometimes these doors and gates open up to otherwise rather common homes, but the contrast between the sophistication of those doors and the simplicity of those houses can perhaps be more telling about the cultural meaning behind those doors.

I've seen this kind of doors all over Korea, even in remote countryside places like some very small communities in Yokji Island or some of the scattered communities in the vicinity of my apartment complex. So, the photos you will see here are by no means meant to be the best that there is. These are only some of the doors and gates I was able to photograph one December afternoon as I walked along some of the main streets of my small town of Gangseong.
